Whereas I liked that as a distinction between the two.
Isn't going down this route /without/ the OpenSearch people on board a
bit pointless? Especially if, as Ed says, they're standardising anyway
in a different venue? We could just wait till that happens and produce
a profile of /that/?
All that said, I'm happier with nothing mandatory than something kludgey
as mandatory. And I accept that there isn't a generic XML format that we
can use, and that trying to enforce the current response schemas is
unlikely to gain much favour.
However, I'm not happy with officially subverting existing standards.
If we really could just drop existing functionality into ATOM without
re-defining what all the elements mean and have it magically work, then
fantastic. But it's just not the case at the moment.
