I would prefer not to do this. It bothers me for a couple of reasons.
It makes CQL the premier query language and makes all other query
languages second class citizens. While that might be fine for you and
I, there are other developers out there who are less certain of that
assertion.
Our intent is to reach a proven audience outside the Z39.50 Next
Generation community. They are not interested in us telling them how to
do their business.
As these hypothetical new search-ws databases become available, they
will either be interested in interoperability with us and will support
our query language or they won't. If they do support our query
language, then they will likely also use the parameter name that we
recommend.
I am not worried about new databases becoming available that I have to
work at to become interoperable with. I'm absolutely not interoperable
with them today and any steps they take to adopt our standard are a win
for us.
