We call that "betting on the come".  I'm not prepared to wait a year and
then discover that we can't use what they've developed.

When presented with alternatives, my practice is to pick both.  So, we
will try our best to influence the OpenSearch RFC process.  In the
meantime, we will continue to try to improve SRU.  I can already tell
that the conversations we've had to date will have an influence on how
we approach the OpenSearch folks.
