Hi Wayne:
Practices here are themselves constantly subject to review, with the
understanding that nothing should be written in stone. The NACO
catalogers, all with considerable experience, submit their work
independently and collaborate freely on complex problems. There is no
fear concerning "errors" [which are rare] since catalogers are human,
absolute perfection is an impractical expectation, and the collaborative
automated environment allows for constant review and unlimited
"correction" and improvements by anyone with access, anywhere, anytime.
Review of all records ready for submission is a tempting concept, except
that it creates another layer of bureaucracy. If it has to be done,
rotating the review responsibility between the individual NACO catalogers
would work as a personal and technical learning environment and foster an
atmosphere of simultaneous independence and collaboration.
Cheers!
