I can confirm this, from Ampex literature and manuals. The 300 was marketed to broadcasters and
studios, and literature noted its reduced cost and improved specs and reliability. The 7.5IPS speed
was aimed at broadcasters and educational/non-professional music applications.
As far as I can tell, the first Ampex example of a 3.75IPS speed option was the 450 background-music
system.
