Jonathan Maberry is the multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Ghost Road Blues, the first of a trilogy of supernatural thrillers published by Pinnacle Books. The series continued with of Dead Man’s Song in 2007; and will conclude with Bad Moon Rising (2008).
He is a professional writer and writing teacher and since 1979 has sold more than 1100 articles, twenty nonfiction books, six novels, as well as short stories, poetry, song lyrics, video scripts, greeting cards, and two plays.
Maberry is also a nonfiction author of some note. His early books dealt mainly with martial arts and self defense and include Judo and You (Kendall Hunt 1990), Ultimate Jujutsu (Strider Nolan, 2002) and Ultimate Sparring (Strider Nolan 2003). Maberry holds an 8th degree black belt in Shinowara-ryu Jujutsu. In 2002 he was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council; and in 2004 was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Maberry departed from martial arts writing and authored a number of books on the folklore and beliefs of the occult and paranormal. His breakout book was Vampire Universe: The Dark World of Supernatural Beings That Haunt Us, Hunt Us and Hunger for Us (Citadel Press, 2006). His newer nonfiction works THE CRYPTOPEDIA: A Dictionary of the Weird, Strange and Downright Bizarre (Citadel, 2007 –winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction; co-authored by David F. Kramer). Scheduled nonfiction books include ZOMBIE CSU: The Forensics of the Living Dead (September 2008); THEY BITE! (2009) and VAMPIRE HUNTERS AND OTHER ENEMIES OF EVIL (2010).
Jonathan recently made a major three-book deal with St. Martins Press for a news series of bio-terrorism thrillers featuring action hero Joe Ledger. The first in that series, PATIENT ZERO, will debut in early 2009 and has received high praise from James Rollins, David Morrell, and other bestselling thriller writers.
Maberry is the Executive Director of The Career Doctor for Writers , which provides workshops, classes and editorial services for writers of all genres; and a founding partner of The Writers Corner USA , a writers' education center that provides in-person and online classes in both the craft and business of writing.
PHILADELPHIA FANTASTIC
Philadelphia Fantastic presents a series of readings and informal discussions by and with local and regional writers of speculative fiction on the fourth Friday of the month. The events are free and dinner with the guest afterwards is at a local restaurant on a pay as you go basis.
