The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Library for the Blind and Physically
Handicapped, has been named the 2007 Network Library of the Year. Now in its
fourth year, the annual award, which carries a $1,000 cash prize, was presented at a
ceremony held June 11 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
This award honors libraries serving blind and physically handicapped readers for
providing innovative programs and services. Past winners include Braille Institute
Library Services of Los Angeles (2004), Illinois State Library Talking Book and
Braille Service of Springfield (2005), and the Free Library of Philadelphia, Library
for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (2006). The Washtenaw County Library
for the Blind and Physically Disabled of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was named the 2006
Network Subregional Library of the Year. This award also carried a $1,000 cash
prize.
