John A. Brown, who holds a BS degree in electrical engineering technology from
Oklahoma State University, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, has been appointed head of the
Engineering Section of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically
Handicapped (NLS), Library of Congress, effective July 7, 2008.
"Following a nationwide search for an electrical engineer with the appropriate
credentials and a background of outstanding achievement, Mr. Brown was selected
and appointed," said Michael Katzmann, NLS Materials Development Division
chief.
Prior to being named head of the section, Mr. Brown was employed as an
audiovisual design consultant in New York City, specializing in creating systems for
boardrooms, conference centers, and auditoriums that met client presentation and
conferencing needs. At NLS, he joins the team responsible for implementing and
maintaining the new digital talking-book technology and for maintaining the existing
C-1 cassette machine program.
Mr. Brown's skills in evaluating hardware and software for quality assurance will
help NLS produce an extremely reliable and high-quality digital talking-book
machine. He has experience designing, integrating, and testing automated control
systems, as well as a strong knowledge of digital and analog circuit design, analysis,
and prototyping.

services using the advances of digital technology," said Mr. Brown.
