not to mention that there's so much data already publicly available, e.g.: http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ .
And there are plenty of others I can understand the desire for privacy, or more as an objective, prevention of identity theft. I don't think limiting years of birth and death in our catalogs would be effective though.
