Subject: Vickie Collins, Contractor in Network Services Section
Vickie Collins, regional librarian of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped of the
Free Library of Philadelphia for more than eighteen years until her retirement this year, has joined
NLS as a contractor/consultant. Ms. Collins will work with the training contractors, NLS staff,
and network librarians to ensure that training content and methods meet network needs. As NLS
moves towards implementing the digital program, Ms. Collins will also assist network staffs with
a variety of transition issues.
Prior to joining the NLS network, Ms. Collins held numerous positions at the Free Library of
Philadelphia, including coordinator of the Reader Development Program, which served more than
two hundred literacy organizations; and as a consultant for the District Library Center, which
served twenty-six independent public libraries. She also worked as a reference librarian at the
Santa Clara County Public Library in California and was employed as a school media specialist
while completing her MLS at Indiana University.
For the past decade, Ms. Collins has taught as an adjunct professor at the Drexel University
College of Information and Technology and at the Community College of Philadelphia Humanities
Department. She is a member of the American Library Association Francis Joseph Campbell
Awards Committee and is vice president of the National Exhibits by Blind Artists.
