Network Bulletin No.: 08-39
Date: September 26, 2008
Subject: CMLS
Index term: Transfers of Codes DDB9, WBB1, and NWL8
The Comprehensive Mailing List System (CMLS) publication codes for online
activities should not be processed in the same manner as magazine subscriptions when
patrons are transferred to other libraries. These codes are DDB9 for Braille and
Audio Reading Download (BARD) users and WBB1 for Web-Braille users.
Additionally, Newsline (NWL8), an online phone system run by National Federation
of the Blind (NFB), is included in CMLS as a service to NFB. These three
codes DDB9, WBB1, and NWL8 must be kept in the reading records of patrons
when they are transferred to other network libraries.
The codes allow NLS to track patron use of these program formats. This ensures that
patrons who use the electronic portions of the free library service are recognized as
active users and their online services will not be interrupted.
