PCC folks--

We're now more than two months into the project that allows non-Latin script references added to NACO records-- things are generally going quite well, but we're due for a couple of reminders:

1. If you are adding non-Latin script references to a name authority record, please change 008/29 to value 'b' (references not evaluated) and add a 667 note indicating either "Non-Latin script reference not evaluated" or "Non-Latin script references not evaluated".  We've been trying to take care of records missing these elements, but it would help if they were there at the start.

2. Please do not add non-Latin script references to records for personal names (100) or corporate bodies (110) that existed before mid-July 2008 unless the record has already been through the pre-population process.  This temporary moratorium is intended to minimize the overlap between cataloger activity and the OCLC pre-population programs that are adding the references to these retrospective records-- if catalogers add references prematurely, the records get kicked into a manual review file, causing additional work.   Once you have seen evidence that the pre-population *has* taken place (a 667 note "Machine-derived non-Latin script reference project" is present in the record), you are free to add additional non-Latin script references.  This temporary moratorium will be lifted as soon as the pre-population process has completed-- it is now more than half way done!  Announcements will be made when the pre-population is complete.
