I am currently traveling, but I understand that my office has received
about 10 phone calls from the Embassy of Moldova about this change. I
have not had a chance to return the call, but I am sure that they are
not pleased. I imagine that they will think that they should have been
consulted.

As of today the top In The News (Actualităţi) story on the Romanian  
Wikipedia http://ro.wikipedia.org/ is about language codes:

8 noiembrie Standardul ISO 639, care stabileşte codurile de  
identificare a limbilor, a fost modificat prin suprimarea codurilor mo  
şi mol atribuitelimbii moldoveneşti; de acum în locul acestora se  
vor folosi numai codurile limbii române: ro, rum şi ron. Decizia a  
fost luată în urma sesizării făcute de Bogdan Stăncescu,  
iniţiatorul proiectului Wikipedia în limba română. Lingvistul  
Marius Sala, vicepreşedinte al Academiei Române, a salutat  
modificarea standardului.

Alas, the Romanian Wikipedia persists in using s-cedilla and t-cedilla  
instead of s-commabelow and t-commabelow.
