Dear Mrs Wintermans
I can confirm to you that USEMARCON converts between MARC formats which
conform to ISO 2709 and will therefore not convert from MARC21 to MAB.
USEMARCON is free software for which you are expected to write your own
conversion rules. The original versions of USEMARCON were provided with
sample conversion rules files one of which converted from USMARC to
UNIMARC. These rules have not been updated since 1997 but I can send
them to you if you wish.
In order to assist libraries which need records in UKMARC, The British
Library has just made available its USEMARCON rules for converting
records for books and serials from MARC21 to UKMARC. They can be
downloaded as a .zip file from our webpage at
http://www.bl.uk/bibliographic/nbsils.html (scroll to the bottom of the
page to find the link).
The technical documentation for USEMARCON is provided with the software
download.

Subject: MARC conversion tools
Hello all,
I am looking for (preferably, ready to use) tools for converting MARC 21
records to other bibliographic standards. I am particularly interested
in conversion from MARC 21 to other MARC standards (such as UNIMARC or
RUSMARC), and in conversion from MARC 21 to MAB.
I found information on USEMARCON Plus, but it was not clear to me
whether it is (more or less) ready to use. Besides this, I assume it
cannot be used to convert MARC 21 files to MAB.
Has any of you converted MARC 21 files to MAB or to other MARC
standards, and would you like to share your experiences?
Thank you for your time,
Mrs. Lian Wintermans - Schild
