I suspect you are right and that the specific question you are
trying to answer is not known.
A study that I wrote for SAA's College and university Archives
Reader regarding processing in CU Archives may be of some
interest to you--with a few caveats. First, the information was
gathered in 2007. Second, I did not specifically ask the
question '% of FA's encoded as EAD". However, I asked several
related questions, such as "What percentage of your processed
holdings are described on line in any format. . " and "What is
your principal finding aid format at that collection/folder/itme
level". Finally, the sample size for the survey was around 100
institutions.
