Subject : Disposal of books and containers
Misinformation regarding recycling federal government property was posted on the LBPH
Listserv on January 29, 2009. Mary Crain, New Jersey's media technician stated: "We
keep many of our recycled boxes for use in repairing broken ones, making new books, etc.
The surplus can go directly to Insights (formerly York Industries), 1380 Spahn Avenue,
York, PA 17403."
Procedures for recycling federal government property __only after__
completing the NLS XESS cycle are clearly stated in the Network Library Manual Section
6.11.3, "Disposal of Cassette Books and RC Containers" (www.loc.gov/nls/nlm/).
No containers or other federal government property may be sent directly to ForSight Vision
in York, Pennsylvania, or any other NLS contractor without specific authorization from the
NLS Inventory Management Section.
