Hi,
I couldn't find an email address for reporting errors in the METS Primer so I'm posting them here.
In the Primer version 1.6 (http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/METS%20Documentation%20final%20070930%20msw.pdf), the example for File content (FContent) element contains two errors. Here is the example found in the Primer (line numbers added):
1 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
2 <mets:mets xmlns:mets="http://www/loc/gov/METS/”
3 xmlns:mods="http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3”
4 xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink”
5 xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance” xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/mets.xsd http://www/loc/gov/mods/v3/mods-3-1.xsd”
6 OBJID="ark:/13030/kt9s2009hz" LABEL="Martial Epigrams">
7 ...
8 <mets:fileSec>
9 <mets:fileGrp ID=”TIFF_GRP01” USE="MASTER IMAGE">
10 <mets:file ID="epi01m" SIZE=”65768” CREATED=”2006-04-11T07:35:22”
11 MIMETYPE="image/tiff" ADMID=”MIX_v1.0_TIFF_epio1m”>
12 <mets:FContent ID="eip01m.tiff" USE="Preservation Master"/>
13 <binData>[base 64 encoded data goes here]</binData>
14 </mets:FContent>
15 </mets:file>
16 </mets:fileGrp>
17 <mets:fileSec>
The errors are:
1) FContent is not an empty element, i.e., it should not have a forward slash at the end of the tag (line 12)
2) binData needs to be namespaced, i.e., mets:binData (line 13)
Here is a version of the example with the changes:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<mets:mets xmlns:mets="http://www/loc/gov/METS/”
xmlns:mods="http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3”
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink”
xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance” xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/mets.xsd http://www/loc/gov/mods/v3/mods-3-1.xsd”
OBJID="ark:/13030/kt9s2009hz" LABEL="Martial Epigrams">
...
<mets:fileSec>
<mets:fileGrp ID=”TIFF_GRP01” USE="MASTER IMAGE">
<mets:file ID="epi01m" SIZE=”65768” CREATED=”2006-04-11T07:35:22”
MIMETYPE="image/tiff" ADMID=”MIX_v1.0_TIFF_epio1m”>
<mets:FContent ID="eip01m.tiff" USE="Preservation Master">
<mets:binData>[base 64 encoded data goes here]</mets:binData>
</mets:FContent>
</mets:file>
</mets:fileGrp>
<mets:fileSec>
I couldn't get my files to validate against http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/mets.xsd until I made these changes.
