I only see the Digest, so perhaps this has already been addressed, but Ken
Flaherty of Polk Miller CD fame is working on a reissue of the earliest
Fisk recordings that will include all of the Edison cylinders, beautifully
restored... including one (which I had previously not heard) featuring the
strong lead tenor of Roland Hayes. His earliest recording, age 24. The
experimental discs of course are lost, as is most unissued material from this era.
I believe the only missing (issued) recording by them from this era is one
of the rare Starrs from 1916. Starr 7554 has not turned up yet.
The cylinder made by a Fisk quartet at the ARSC Conference in Nashville in
1997 may be "lost" in a sense. I understand that the Fisk music director
forbid Peter Dilg from making any copies, for anyone. (Even me--and I did the
announcement, doing my best Ed Meeker imitation). Perhaps Mike Biel filmed
The Fisk Singers made three LPs in the 1950s, one of which, on Folkways,
should still be available from the Smithsonian as a CDR. They made very few
commercial recordings after that, for which see Allmusic and Amazon.
