The date is 1923. Anything copyrighted before then is PD. In the case
of the 1952 ASCAP book, it could be PD if it was not renewed.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't renewed. There's
another online edition at
http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/music-search/, but it's very
difficult to navigate.
