Roger's correct, of course, in the sense that many pieces commonly
played by modern old-time musicians pre-date 1921. Many songs common to
modern old-time players originated as stage songs in the late 1800s, and
more originated on the minstrel stage. Tony Russell's book (which I
should have thought of immediately) is a good start, though.
