As a one-time professional jazz musician who still loves to listen to small
jazz combo in a small club, I can't completely agree with that statement.
It certainly sounds stereo when you listen to the acoustic event, so why
wouldn't I want to hear it in a similar fashion on my stereo/surround
Of course I agree that a lot of jazz music becomes "hyper-stereo" using
"modern" production techniques, and when this employed to a "small jazz
combo" it's distracting at the very least - and potentially ruins the feel
and cohesiveness of the ensemble.
I guess more of that "less is more" thing...
