Dear Gina,
I would be happy to discuss the various options that one can explore that could help you to get involved in the field of audio archiving.
Besides working as the Program Coordinator, for UCLA's Moving Image Archive Studies Program, I have worked in the field of Audio-Visual Preservation for the past 15 years and have the distinction of receiving the first Master of Arts degree in the Preservation and Restoration of Motion Pictures and Recorded Sound from a university in the United States.
One souce of info that I would suggest that you review is: http://cool.conservation-us.org/bytopic//audio/.
Please let me know if you would like to schedule a phone meeting.
All the best,
Lance

Subject: [ARSCLIST] Newbie- how to start a career in audio preservation and archiving
Hello group! I am a recent graduate (2007) with my masters degree in
Library and Information Science. I have a strong background in public
libraries, but would like to get into archiving and preserving audio collections.
(I also have a basic background in digitizing photos and slides for a
museum and library). How would I start in this type of field? I live in Ohio
and can't move anywhere for an unpaid internship (but I could do one if it
is nearby). Would I need to get some sort of certification or additional
master degrees to learn more about this field? Are there any online
programs? Any suggestions and assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Gina D
