Sam brought up what I was first going to mention -- if your recordings
were made in the city of origin of the broadcast it would have the
possibility of having much better sound quality than those made in other
cities on the network line. Your online catalog listing states that the
recordings were made by NBC. Do they have NBC San Francisco labels? If
so, they are likely to be hi-fi versions of what might be duplicated
elsewhere with perhaps a 7 or 10 KHz top end.
Another thing to remember is that the network recording services were
available for hire by almost anyone. Recordings with NBC labels were
not necessarily meant to be NBC property.
If the recordings were not made by NBC themselves but by a recording
studio, by 1945 NBC was required to make outside feeds available to
studios, or else the recordings could be made off the air if the studio
had not contracted for a feed. Direct feeds were to be preferred, of
course.
