David,

If your source tapes come from many different decks, I would add  
azimuth adjustment to your requirement list. Most decks (even  
consumer ones) have such an adjustment, but it is often awkward to  
get to. If you need to adjust azimuth often (as you would have to if  
the tapes come from any different decks), it may be worth getting a  
deck that allows easy adjustment (preferably a knob).
