If you're going to be in the Los Angeles area around Friday, 23 October,
I'm hosting a tour (Our library, maybe the NASA Dryden Library, AFFTC
Museum tour and a Flightline tour) for the SLA SoCal Chapter (see
complete info below). You don't have to be a SLA member to come and you
can bring a guest. Please contact David Cappoli at [log in to unmask]
with registration info. You'll need to do this by Saturday, 10 October
(sorry about the short notice, but I just thought of posting to the list
when I found out that we still had seats available). It wouldn't hurt
if you let me know if you're coming, but I'll get a list of attendees
from David anyway.
Be ready to give David the following info.

ID# (Use either: last four of social security number, Green Card number,
or passport number, or driver's license number (to include state and

Subject: [sla-csca] SLA Tour of Edwards AFB
The SLA Southern California Chapter presents a
reprise of one of it's most popular tours of recent years ...
A Tour of Edwards Air Force Base
Please join SLA SoCal for a tour of Edwards Air
Force base and two of the libraries on the
base. Covering over 300,000 acres, Edwards AFB
is located in the Mojave Desert, and is home to
the Air Force Flight Test Center. The bus tour
will include a stop at the Air Force Flight Test
Center Museum, and a drive-by of the Edwards flightline.
Come see why the flight test center's motto is
"Ad Inexplorata ... Toward the Unexplored."
-- Cost: The only cost will be for your lunch
as there is no cost for the tour and no charge
for parking. And lunch should be under $10.00.
-- Date: Friday, October 23, 2009
-- Time: Plan on arriving at the main base gate
at 9:00 a.m. as the tour will begin no later than
9:30 a.m. and end at approximately 3:45
p.m. Lunch will be approximately at 11:30 a.m.
-- Tour Itinerary (in, of course, military time):
0900 Meet bus at West Gate
0930 Flight Line Tour
1130 Lunch at Food Court
1245 Museum Tour
1345 Base Library (may be able to switch to NASA Dryden Library)
1445 Tech Library
1545 Back to West Gate
-- Directions: Edwards is approximately 80
miles north of Los Angeles, but driving to the
base should be relatively traffic-free since you
will be going against the morning commute. To
access the base take Highway 14 (Antelope Valley
Freeway) to the Rosamond Bl. Exit (Exit 55), and
turn east onto the boulevard. Continue on the
boulevard until you approach the entry gates to
the base - at this time you will park in the
small parking lot just south of the
roadway. After parking, we will board a bus for our private tour.
-- Accommodations: If you are interested in
staying overnight in the area either before or
after the tour, there are a number of lodging
options in Lancaster which is about 30 miles
south of the base. A listing of accommodations
is available at http://lancasterca.cu.myareaguide.com/hotels.html
Please RSVP by September 30th to
[log in to unmask] and include the number of
attendees. There is a minimum number of
attendees required for this tour, and it may be
cancelled if the minimum is not reached by the 30th.
Attendees must be U.S. citizens and will be
required to provide identification information
ahead of time. More information will be provided to tour participants.
On September 26, 2009, you should plan to attend SLA-SCC's Annual
for the Karen Sternheim Memorial Scholarship
Join us for a fun and relaxing evening of networking, wine tasting, hors
