This assumes your refrigerator is white, is perfectly flat, does not
have a patterned surface, has no surface defects/scratches, and does not
have magnets or kids artwork/reportcards on it. Seriously, I find I get
much better results with a good white artcard with a matte surface.

BUT, I have yet to find a projector which will display the ENTIRE image
-- ESPECIALLY when it comes to 8mm. So many cameras shot an image most
of the way out on the perforation edge which can supply a lot of image
although part of that extension will be missing. The Zapruder film is a
good example where the new transfers of the entire image shows 50% more
content. Even without this extension there is a BIG difference between
an amateur transfer using a projector and one done by a professional
transfer studio using a scanner -- but for the average home movie it
does not make a big enough difference to warrant the price.

But the question was about 16mm, not 8mm, and professional quality, not
schlock quality. You could probably get good results from Fred Berney
at Satellite Media Productions in Maryland. I had him transfer many of
my kines.
