Hi all listmembers,
The other day Harry Weinger-san e-mailed me to ask for label scans
of Mercury 15003/15004/8900 and Clef 8900. These 78rpms are known
as Dexter Gordon's first leader session.
For many years, I have been looking for any information on these
78rpms, but I have never seen a copy (or even a scan) of these
12-inch 78rpms. I am even wondering if these 78rpms were actually
released to the market or not.
Does anyone in the list own these 78rpms? Or does anyone have
precise information on these 78rpm releases? Harry-san has been
looking for label scans for some CD reissue project; I have been
looking for any information on this.
The "Verve 50th Anniversary" CD issue of "Lester Young Trio"
(c)1994 (Verve 314 521 650-2) has these tracks, noting as follows
(Researched by Phil Schaap):
I've Found a New Baby Clef/Mercury 15003
Rosetta Clef/Mercury 8900
Sweet Lorraine Clef/Mercury 15003
Blowed and Gone Clef/Mercury 8900
"The Mercury Labels: Discography" by Ruppli-Novitsky (c)1993
notes these tracks as follows:
Sweet Lorraine Mercury 15003
I Blowed and Gone Mercury 15004
I've Found A New Baby Mercury 15003; Mercury 8900; Clef 8900
Rosetta Mercury 15004; Mercury 8900; Clef 8900
I guess the Ruppli's data is correct (just my guess).
If these 78rpms were actually released in mid-late 1940s,
Merc. 15003/15004 was out first, then Mercury 8900 released second,
then in 1953 or after that Clef 8900 was released last.
Any info/suggestion/correction on this?
