I demonstrated as far back as 1983 put the piano in its right place and gave
her the registers back that Nature had supplied her with.
With all the concern about what the reproducing horn does to the signal its
needle picks from the groove, it is a great pity that there is no calibration
material around for testing it in practice. When I ran a small competition
(one of my own original speed calibration records being the prize) in Oslo in
2004, as to what replay machine received no calibration in transfer I deeply
irritated certain fellow Technical Committee members in IASA. But they had
persued digitization and metadata instead.
