Dear Betsy Mckelvey,
many thanks for showing your interest and pointing me into the right direction!
While this it is not about some tool for bibliographic research (which
indeed would only require title, issue and place for the "hosting"
newspaper), it's about representing those newspapers digitally on the web
with the scanned pages in different sizes, completely transcribed (full text
search capable) articles, filter functions for different categories, user
comment sections per object and more. Of course this still remains a good
tool for bibliographic research.
So I want to be able to provide as much information about the newspaper as
possible.
And that also means that I want to store this information central and not on
a "per article" basis.
The METS/MODS XMLs are the base for this which will be implemented within a
Fedora structure (a "thousands of linked XML"-mechanism providing database
kind of access possibilities with surprisingly high speed).
But considering the second reply to my post by Jan Ashton you are hinting
the right thing anyway. :)
It appears to me that no one is hurt, when I provide only basic information
about the "host" from within the article view (as you suggest) and
additionally provide the "full force" link to a more central object. This
however raises some new questions for me (i.e. storing it inside the XML or
as an external file) - but I'll read the docs first, before asking you guys
about this here - chances are, I'll find it out by myself :)
I just want to make sure to stay strictly within the METS/MODS specs (hoping
this way further generations won't have too much problems parsing the files).
Best regards,
