Discontinuation of Talking Book Topics and Braille Book Review diskette (TBR7)
NLS plans to discontinue production of the Talking Book Topics (TBT)/Braille
Book Review (BBR) diskette (TBR7) as a result of decreasing subscriptions and
therefore increasing costs. On December 3, 2009, NLS mailed a letter to patrons
who subscribe to the diskette notifying them that the November(December 2009
issue will be the last issue produced in that format.
NLS will continue to provide TBT and BBR in accessible formats. TBT is
available in large print and cassette. It is also available online in both HTML
and plain text at www.loc.gov/nls/tbt and on the Braille and Audio Reading
Download (BARD) as a digital talking book at nlsbard.loc.gov. BBR is available
in large print and embossed braille. It is also available online in both HTML
and plain text at www.loc.gov/nls/bbr and in downloadable contracted braille on
Web-Braille at www.loc.gov/nls/braille/mags/bb.html.
In the letter mentioned above we instructed patrons to contact their local
library should they wish to subscribe to a version of one of the magazines that
they had not previously subscribed to or they wish to sign up for an online
service (Web-Braille or BARD). The letter also gives contact information at NLS
where patrons should direct any questions or comments regarding the
discontinuation of the TBT/BBR diskette. See the attached copy of the letter
for details.
