Subject : Digital player firmware update
An update (version 2.1.3) of the digital player firmware is now available for download at
http://www.loc.gov/nls/DTBM. Please refer to this web site for a comprehensive list of
historical changes to digital player firmware.
Version 2.1.3 corrects an issue for patrons using the Apple Macintosh OSX operating
system to download books from the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD).
OSX adds additional files (to the actual book files) that the player recognizes as a second
book (although they are housekeeping files for OSX). The updated firmware ignores these
files allowing Apple users to download files from BARD without having to do any corrective
action.
Because of the lengthy transit time from manufacturer to library, it will be several months
before players from the manufacturer will have this firmware loaded. Since the issue is
minor, it is not necessary to recall players to apply the correction. Please use the latest
version of software when updating players in the future.
From time to time, digital player software upgrades will be made available to network
libraries. These upgrades will be announced via operations alerts when they are available
for download.
