Unfortunately, it's not so easy. You have to consider the price of labwork/any restoration, telecine, stock/hard drives, authoring, packaging, server costs, shipping and storage, shelf space at B&Ms... not to mention all of the employees and overhead for all that stuff... all that to have your minimum pressing of 10,000 units sell 1,000 copies (if you're lucky) and then the rest dumped at a wholesaler for $3 a pop.
Most people don't understand how not so easy it actually is.

Why don't they distribute themselves? With the internet it's so easy. They have the material already so it's just a matter of putting it on services like itunes or whatever. Making a DVD is just as easy. In not States side so I'm not familiar with the territory, but like the Bul Ives site that has all his recordings for slae. Those that like Jack benny would find them. A bit of press (Ms. Leff sounds like she know how to PR) and that's that.
