Now that this thread has become focused upon playing & transferring disks,
perhaps it should be renamed, referencing CEDAR v SONNOX..
I don't recall seeing any reference to arms' adjustable tangents. This
feature's inherently provided in some SME units.
Some years ago I had a machinist make an elongated version of the 'rail' on
which the arm's pivot is mounted. Therefore my 3012 can properly play any
size ranging from about 3" dia. to 20" Pathe monsters.
Long ago I realized that grooves cut disproportionately close to the center
(out to the rim) are best reproduced by readjusting the tangent. The
adjustable range is sufficient to accommodate pickups that are mounted
backwards for playing negative metal parts.
I have an assortment of Stanton Bi-pointed radial styli that were made for
me many years ago by George Alexandrovich.
I modified my Technics SP10-MKII with a reversing circuit. It uses a
latching relay & two momentary N.O. switches: one to enter the CCW mode &
the other to revert to normal. It also reverts when the STOP button's used,
or when power's cut off.
I've used modified Rabco SL8-E arms to play cylinders, but have not tried
playing negatives (grooves inside the cylinder)
because I've never had access to any.
