Faculty Position: Information Organization

The Department of Library and Information Sciences in the College of
Information at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for
a tenure-track position in information organization at the rank of assistant
professor.

Responsibilities: Applicant will be expected to teach the required master’s
level information organization course, to teach and develop courses in the
information organization program of study, deliver instruction in both
residential and distributed learning environments, and play a substantial
role in the Interdisciplinary Information Science PhD Program. The
successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding to support
his/her research efforts and to develop a record of scholarly research
necessary to earn tenure.

Qualifications: The minimum requirement for appointment is an earned
doctorate in library or information science or related field by the time of
appointment. Preferred qualifications include a focus in traditional and
emerging information organization theories and practices across information
environments, including but not limited to cataloging and classification,
metadata and encoding standards, indexing and abstracting, thesauri,
ontologies, semantic web technologies, and communal information
organization, (i.e., folksonomies, social tagging). The successful
candidate will demonstrate evidence of effective teaching, research, and
scholarship with experience/expertise in the area of information
organization. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated
record of funded scholarly research and publication.

Salary and benefits: Faculty appointments are for nine months with
opportunities for summer teaching. Salary is commensurate with experience
and qualifications. Benefits include a choice of retirement systems
(including TIAA/CREF) and employer-funded health insurance.
