Sound Archives/Ngā Taonga Kōrero (SANTK) plays a pivotal role in preserving
and providing access to an aural history of New Zealand. This small,
supportive team is dedicated to working with the most significant collection
of radio broadcasts from stations all over the country.
The Accessions Archivist is responsible for constructing a picture of the
New Zealand radio market as it is today by identifying significant
recordings, managing incoming recordings and associated documentation, and
liaising with broadcasters and donors.
The collection consists of recordings made off air, and also those received
as donations of mainly historical broadcast material. It aims to show the
full diversity of material broadcast in New Zealand by all networks and
stations, whether commercial, public, iwi, access, student or other forms of
broadcast providers.
If you have a solid general knowledge, keep up with news and current affairs
as well as having an ongoing interest in New Zealand history and events,
this opportunity could be exactly what you’re looking for. You will need a
tertiary qualification, preferably with radio broadcasting, archives,
library or museum specialisation, and experience operating audio equipment.
Effective written and oral communication skills and active listening skills
are essential, while a background in radio and/or journalism is desirable.
