As online databases and web-based resources continue to proliferate, the
need for creating MARC metadata for integrating resources is
increasing. The 2010 revision of the Integrating Resources Cataloging
workshop introduces catalogers to the concepts and definitions needed to
create MARC metadata for websites and databases. It provides guidance
on
cataloging integrating resources with a focus on updating databases and
websites plus an incidental session on loose-leaf format. The course
covers AACR2 cataloging rules from chapters 9 and 12 and MARC21
coding. This revision also reflects recent changes in cataloging
practices for integrating resources, including Provider Neutral Record,
CONSER Standard Record, and changes to MARC coding such as the
repeatable
260 field.
This course is designed for catalogers who are new to cataloging
integrating resources but presumes at least some familiarity with the
rules and practice of cataloging electronic resources. The course is
also
beneficial to cataloging managers who are interested in the latest
updates
on new changes and policy related to the cataloging of integrating
resources.
Participate in this webinar workshop from the convenience of your own
computer and desk. There is no fee for the workshop. The class will meet
in four two-hour sessions from 1:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m. on April 1st, 14th,
15th, and 29th. A headset with microphone is required for voice/audio
participation.
