The following may help you decide what you need to do about OCLC
FirstSearch subscriptions. We will provide more information about block
FirstSearch purchases and NetLibrary soon.

First off, everything for which you have a current subscription on OCLC
FirstSearch will remain available on FirstSearch for the life of the
subscription. Nothing needs to change until time for a renewal.

If you have anything due for renewal by June 30, 2010, you can, if you
prefer, renew through the FEDLINK OCLC contract using your OCLC transfer
pay account.

A core set of databases created by OCLC, libraries, government
agencies, etc., will remain in FirstSearch. Some other databases will
be available from Ebsco, some from H. W. Wilson, and some from neither.
That means there are four possible outcomes for the future availability
of a current FirstSearch database.

1. In the FAQ OCLC distributed on March 17, there is a list of what
will remain on FirstSearch:

Anthropological Literature (Harvard University)
Anthropology Plus	(Harvard University & The Royal Anthropological
Institute)
Anthropological Index (The Royal Anthropological Institute)
ArchiveGrid (OCLC)
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals	(Columbia University)
Bibliography of the History of Art (J. Paul Getty Trust)
CAMIO-Catalog of Museum & Art Images (OCLC)
Chicano Database (University of California at Berkeley)
Clase and Periodica (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico Systems)
ERIC (U.S. Department of Education)
FRANCIS	(Institut de l’Information Scientifique et Technique
du CNRS)
GPO Monthly Catalog (U.S. Government Printing Office)
Heritage of the Printed Book (Consortium of European Research
Libraries)
History of Science, Technology, and Medicine (Istituto e Museo di
Storia della Scienza, Wellcome Library, History of Science Society &
Society for the History of Technology)
Index to 19th -Century American Art Periodicals (Mary M. Schmidt)
MEDLINE	(U.S. National Library of Medicine)
OAIster (OCLC)
OCLC ArticleFirst (OCLC)
OCLC Electronic Books (OCLC)
OCLC Electronic Collections Online (OCLC)
OCLC PapersFirst (OCLC)
OCLC ProceedingsFirst (OCLC)
OCLC WorldCat (OCLC)
Russian Academy of Science Bibliographies (INION The Russian Academy of
Sciences)
SCIPIO (OCLC)
World Almanacs (World Almanac Education Group)
WorldCat Dissertations and Theses (OCLC)

2. There is a list in the FAQ of what will go to EbscoHost
permanently. Only two of those were not already on EbscoHost:
Alternative Press Index and Alternative Press Index Archives. If you
wish to renew them through EbscoHost, their FEDLINK Service ID is EH and
the contract number LC09D7041. Renewal via the FEDLINK/OCLC contract
will also be available through June 30, 2010. These databases will
remain available for searching through FirstSearch through the life of
your subscription.

AGRICOLA (National Agriculture Library)
Alternative Press Index (Alternative Press Center)
Alternative Press Index Archive (Alternative Press Center)
ATLA Religion (American Theological Library Association)
ATLA Serials Database (American Theological Library Association)
EconLit (American Economic Association)
GeoRefS	(American Geological Institute)
MLA International Bibliography (Modern Language Association of
America)
Philosopher’s Index	(Philosopher’s Information Center)
PsycINFO	(American Psychological Association)
PsycARTICLES (American Psychological Association)
PsycBOOKS (American Psychological Association)
PsycCRITIQUES (American Psychological Association)
RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (RILM International Center)
RIPM Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals (RIPM International
Center)

3. There is a list of the H.W. Wilson databases that are currently
also available on FirstSearch. If you wish to renew them through H.W.
Wilson Company, their FEDLINK Service ID is WI and the contract number
LC09D7016. Renewal via the FEDLINK/OCLC contract will also be available
through June 30, 2010. These databases will remain available for
searching through FirstSearch through the life of your subscription.

Applied Science & Technology Abstracts/Applied Science & Technology
Index
Art Abstracts/Art Index
Biography Index
Biological & Agricultural Index
Book Review Digest
Education Abstracts/Education Index
Essay and General Literature Index
General Sciences Abstracts/General Sciences Index
Humanities Abstracts/Humanities Index
Index to Legal Periodicals & Books
Library Literature
Readers’ Guide Abstracts
Social Sciences Abstracts/Social Sciences Index
Wilson Business Abstracts
Wilson Select Plus

4.a. Finally, there is a fourth list of databases that will eventually
go away from FirstSearch but for which OCLC has not yet announced an
end-date: "We will update libraries about the timeline for transition
of these databases over the next few months.”

ABI/INFORM (ProQuest Information and Learning)
Arts & Humanities Search (Thomson Scientific)
Biology Digest (Plexus Publishing)
Books In Print (R.R. Bowker)
Books In Print with Reviews (R.R. Bowker)
Business & Industry (The Gale Group)
Business & Management Practices (The Gale Group)
Business Dateline (ProQuest Information and Learning)
CA Student Edition (Chemical Abstracts Service)
Contemporary Women’s Issues (The Gale Group)
Disclosure/DisclosureS (Thomson Reuters)
Dissertation Abstracts Online	(ProQuest Information and Learning)
Environmental Science and Pollution Management (Cambridge Scientific
Abstracts)
GEOBASE	(Elsevier B.V.)
Newspaper Abstracts (ProQuest Information and Learning)
PAIS Archive (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
PAIS International	(Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
Periodical Abstracts (ProQuest Information and Learning)
SIRS Researcher (ProQuest Information and Learning)
Sociological Abstracts (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
Worldscope/WorldscopeS (Thomson Reuters)

To smooth the transitions, OCLC is working with H.W. Wilson and Ebsco
so that there will be overlap, allowing you to use your OCLC-purchased
subscription on their platforms for the remaining life of current
subscriptions.

In other words, if you subscribed to any Wilson databases via OCLC
(list 3), soon you can also access them directly on H. W. Wilson for the
life of that subscription. H.W. Wilson will let you know when that
becomes an option.

The same will hold true with EbscoHost for list #2, i.e. those
databases currently available on both FirstSearch and EbscoHost and the
two moving to EbscoHost. In addition, for a limited period, some of the
databases listed in that fourth category above will be available on the
EbscoHost platform if you have a subscription via FirstSearch:

List 4.b.

ABI/INFORM (ProQuest Information and Learning)
Arts & Humanities Search (Thomson Scientific)
Books In Print (R.R. Bowker)
Books In Print with Reviews (R.R. Bowker)
Business & Industry (The Gale Group)
Business & Management Practices (The Gale Group)
CA Student Edition (Chemical Abstracts Service)
Contemporary Women’s Issues (The Gale Group)
GEOBASE	(Elsevier B. V.)
PAIS Archive (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
PAIS International (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)
Periodical Abstracts	(ProQuest Information and Learning)
SIRS Researcher (ProQuest Information and Learning)
Sociological Abstracts (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts)

Access to these via the EbscoHost platform will be only for the life of
the FirstSearch subscription. To renew those, you will need to contact
the publisher/provider directly. Most are currently available via
FEDLINK. The FEDLINK ID’s and contract numbers for those available
for purchase via FEDLINK are:

List 4.c. (Providers in 4.b. available via FEDLINK)

LC09D7028
