Invitation:

PCC Train-the-Trainer Workshop for:
Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH
Fundamentals of Library of Congress Classification

Library of Congress (LC)
Friday, June 25, 2010, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Adams Building, LA 100
First and Independence Avenues, SE
Washington, DC 20540-4230

The Cooperative Programs Section will offer a one-day Train-the-Trainer
workshop for the courses: Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH and
Fundamentals of Library of Congress Classification at the Library of
Congress, June 25, 2010, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. The target audience is
experienced LCSH and Library of Congress Classification SACO cataloging
staff from PCC SACO-member institutions.

Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH and Fundamentals of Library of
Congress Classification are two separate two-day courses completed in
2004 and 2007 by task groups drawn from the Program for Cooperative
Cataloging Standing Committee on Training (PCC SCT) and the Association
for Library Collections and Technical Services Cataloging and
Classification Section (ALCTS CCS). The courses present authoritative
training in the principles and practices of Library of Congress Subject
Headings (LCSH) and Library of Congress Classification (LCC).

Experienced catalogers/trainers may apply to become presenters for
these two courses. Selected applicants will attend the Train-the-Trainer
workshop on June 25, 2010.

Requirements:

Participants must pre-register for this Train-the-Trainer workshop by
the deadline: Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Applicants must:

1.	Be from an active PCC SACO institution.

2.	Have experience contributing both LCSH proposals and LCC
proposals through the SACO Program; a minimum of three years cataloging
experience is recommended.

3.	Have training experience, particularly with other PCC- or
cataloging-related courses or workshops.

4.	Have knowledge of ClassificationWeb.

5.	Be prepared to examine and review the training materials for the
Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH and Fundamentals of Library of
Congress Classification courses prior to the June 25 workshop.

6.	Have supervisory approval to apply for the workshop, since
selected applicants must agree to be considered for recruitment to act
as trainer for either course in the future.

Each institution will be responsible for its participant’s travel and
accommodation costs. There is no fee for the class itself.

Programs at the Library of Congress programs comply with the Americans
with Disabilities Act. If special accommodations are needed for any
participant to attend this class, please include pertinent information
when emailing about interest in the course.

Registration for the Train-the-Trainer Workshop:
Deadline: Wednesday, April 7, 2010

1.	Send an email to [log in to unmask] (Subject line: PCC
Train-the-Trainer) with the name(s), email, and telephone number of
anyone interested in attending the session. Include:

●	A supervisor’s name and email address
●	ADA accommodations, if needed
●	A description of your experience using LCSH and LCC, and your
experience contributing LCSH and LCC proposals through the SACO Program
●	Your training experience, either with these two courses, or with
other LCSH- or LCC- related training modules

2.	Selection will be based on a candidate’s experience with LCSH
and LCC, and on previous training experience.

3.	Prior to selection, the workshop coordinator may contact
supervisors for further information.

4.	Please wait for a confirmation of participation in the workshop
before making any travel reservations. Tentative hotel reservations may
be made in advance, because they are more flexible.

5.	Participation in this workshop is limited to 20 applicants.

Confirmations will be sent by: Monday, April 19, 2010

Participants may make their own hotel arrangements or reserve rooms at
Capitol Hill Suites, which is the closest hotel to the training site.
Their reservation web page is:
http://www.capitolhillsuites.com/reservations.html
You will find several Holiday Inns available near Metro stops in DC and
Virginia as well. http://holidayinn.com

Keep in mind that the Library is accessible by Metro from both the Blue
and Orange lines at the Capitol South Station.

Please address any questions to the workshop coordinator for this
event:
