*Omnivor though I am, I enjoy the often excellent dishes served up by my no
flesh eating friends...*
*I'll probably check this out to see how the classic New Orleans food is
interpreted without meat.*

*Review:* Take the Riverfront streetcar to the end, hop off & you're almost
there - do whatever it takes to get to Cafe Bamboo! Owned & operated by a
well educated (African Studies major) & vegan who is dedicated to bringing
the full New Orleans dining experience to his vegetarian visitors, this
place offers everything from Indian to American. I had the Appetizer
Sampler, while my husband tried the Bourbon "Chicken". We shared & left very
happy. The staff were friendly & the place was clean with an eclectic
atmosphere. They have music every night (we were there for lunch, so I don't
know about the music). The "chicken" was soy-based & in the appetizer
sampler was a bit dry, but under the bourbon sauce ROCKED!! The hummus was
incredible. The fried Indian thingies (forgot the name) were to die for! The
Spring Rolls were divine & even had vegetarian "ham" in them (I didn't think
I would like this, but with the sauce, it was really good!). Overall, Cafe
Bamboo gets a 9.9 out of 10 from me. If you visit New Orleans (or live here)
you must visit this place. And, say, "Hi" to the owner, he's charming.

*Review:* I have recently moved to Louisiana and was nervous about my
available vegan options. The last time I was in New Orleans in 2005
(pre-Katrina) I couldn't find ANYTHING to eat. Even rice and beans wasn't an
option because the beans contained pork fat. Fast forward to the present day
and there exists a place that is within walking distance of the French
Quarter. It is actually right across the street from the Louisiana State
Museum (Old U.S. Mint) and can be seen from out the window of said museum.
