I've changed my mind and booked the airport shuttle ($38 round-trip). No sense in traipsing through the streets of New Orleans with a big suitcase and a laptop case in 91% humidity, especially with the chance of thunderstorms that day. There will be plenty of time to explore the city - I'd just as soon not do it while laden down. Since I'm returning on Sunday, bus service is not as frequent as during the week, and you might have to walk farther to get to a bus stop. Just my thoughts.
