Hello,
just a small comment on transportation, provoked by the following taken out
of its context (which was beautifully rendered by Arthur Gaer):
..............
> then hop back on the car, sit on the opposite side, and enjoy the
> antebellum mansions, etc. on the other side of the street on the way
> back.
----- now, unless the driver of the streetcar switches places to the opposite
end when he goes back, I would suggest NOT sitting on the opposite side.
----- this is related to the origin of the word posh. When wealthy Britishers
went to India they wanted to have their cabin away from the sun, and likewise
on the way back. The way they could obtain this was by ordering "port out,
starboard home", and this was marked in the passenger list as POSH.
Kind regards,
George
