Nathan,
You could certainly try that. The tag element library allows for the extptr tag to be used within the publisher statement. The element description states: "An empty linking element that uses attributes to connect the EAD document to an external electronic object, which is not part of the materials being described. Examples include graphic representations of a repository's seal or logo, and pointers to an institution's web page."
You'll have to adjust your stylesheet accordingly, but I'm surprised that your regional repository doesn't -- or won't -- display each repository's logo with their respective finding aids. We are part of a consortium that will be coming online later this summer that displays each participant's logo, which I believe is generated via the style sheet.

Russell,
In your example, your using the <doa> element, which I would agree should only represent the collection or it's creator. That got me thinking about <archdesc> in general and how it should only be about the collection. What would you think about embedding the logo in the eadheader | publicationstatement | publisher? It seems logical since that section is only describing the creation of the finding aid, and that element specifically is about its publisher.
Thanks everyone for the advice and feedback! I just determined why my coding wasn't working -- the stylesheet I'm using was pulling the image URL from the xpointer attribute and not href. A quick change to the stylesheet corrected the problem. But, thanks to Russell's comment, I'm not so sure on how appropriate it is in archdesc | did | repository...
Best,
Nathan

Nathan,
We leave the handling of the institutional logo to our style sheet, however we do embed a specific image from each collection into the EAD that is then positioned via the style sheet. You can see the ead-xml source code of any of our findings aids using the ‘view source’ function in your browser. http://www.providence.edu/Archives/Browse+the+Collections.htm
Since the institutional logo is not part of any of our collections, I wouldn’t consider using it in the ead, unless the collection was the institutional records that the logo represented.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Embedding Institutional Logos
Good morning everyone,
I'm currently experimenting with embedding our institutional logo in the finding aid, rather than relying on the stylesheet to insert it. Has anyone else taken this approach? If so, I'm curious about where and how you inserted the image.
So far I've tried using the <extptr> tag within archdesc | did | repository, but am not having much luck; instead of the desired image, I end up with a black outlined box. Here's the code I'm using: <extptr actuate="onload" href="style/aja1.gif" title="AJA Logo" show="embed" />.
Thanks,
Nathan Tallman
