The Imagineering Interest Group of LITA is presenting two exciting
programs at Annual in DC, and Tor publishing has provided us with a
stunning panel of authors.
Science Fiction and Fantasy: Informing the Present by Imagining the Future
Saturday, June 26th, 4-5:30pm
Convention Center Ballroom B
Distinguished science fiction and fantasy authors will discuss the
visionary nature of their craft, how speculative literature suggests
new ideas and technologies, and the possible impact the ideas could
have on society in the future. This year's author line-up is Cory
Doctorow, Jane Lindskold, Cherie Priest, Dom Testa, and Brandon
This is the program some of you look forward to every year. The
represented authors write for children, young adults, and adults.
There's something for everyone!
Then, for those of you who have been asking for more help in how to
use science fiction in the library, we have put together an expert
panel to discuss:
Science Fiction: Past, Present and Future.
Monday, June 28th, 10:30-Noon, Convention Center 209 A/B
Explore the genre of science fiction. Eric Rabkin, a professor, noted
writer and scholar, will give an overview of where the genre of
science fiction has been. Futurist Cory Doctorow will look at where
it is going. Neil Hollands from the Williamsburg Regional Library
will help us understand how to put that information into practical use
in our libraries today.
