This is a good subject for discussion. I have no tips, just thoughts:
Due to the combination of ingredients, there is no "green" way to
dispose of audio tapes. Like milk cartons with plastic and paper
bonded, nether element can be recycled, so they go to landfill.
Removing tape from plastic and metal reels is good; the plastic and
metal can be recycled separately, and perhaps the tape should be
shredded before going to the dump?
Here in California, there are several electronics collection places
that do a good job of at least sending what can be recycled to the
appropriate destinations. I have sent off many boxes of videocassettes
this way.
