I use the Stanton 500E MKII ("Broadcast Standard") cartridge with two sets of styli for use with transcriptions/78s and LP/45s. The turntable is an Esoteric which used to be called the "Ramses" 16" transcription turntable, but is now sold as a Rek-O-Kut CVS-16. I've transferred oodles of all types of disks with great success.

I am using the Stanton 681 cartridge with a pair of Op-Amp Labs preamps...absolutely awesome sound...... I use for it transfering vinyl to cd
The key is preamping.... no matter how good the cartridge/stylus combination is.
