Karl and Haudy you guys make some strong points. To walk further in this
line look at the bootlegged Jazz concerts and others that decades later get
a major label release.
It should be interesting to watch where the copyright laws go in the next
years, as internet stealing continues. When I talk to my youngest sister
(16) she's bewildered at the possibility of even buying a cd legally. "Why
would I do that, such a waste when I can just get it online" And that not
only means downloading but streaming through sites like youtube. Through
Iphone or laptop your never far from an internet connection, so there is
realistically Zero need to have physical copies. Thusly we have a generation
blooming with out knowledge that music/movies/TV are actually things you pay
for, which will only make things harder to deal with down the road.
The convenience and innocence of stealing these works out weighs the norm,
so much so that the norm - 'main stream' is even catering to it through
sites like Hulu etc. Is it wrong, debatable, but I don't think there are
enough dollars in advertising to cover all the $$ thats being lost through
theft.
Now how do we outsource I music and movie production, cheaper to make, more
to profit. (not to be over critical but the current 'American Dream' really
is based on the idea of creating a good that you then resell for profit. If
that good is too expensive to make and lacks profit. Well... As we see this
ideal is quickly becoming outdated)
...trying not to step on toes being overly opinionated, but I am trying to
see the world without those Rose Colored Specs :)
