Hello EAD-ers -
This came across the A&A list yesterday; I suggested that encoding the different versions in EAD and using the lang attribute to generate different versions might be one approach. She then asked if anyone had done such a thing, so I offered to cross-post it here to find out. I believe she's now (or soon will be) subscribed to the list, so you can reply to the list or directly to her.
Thanks --
Michele

Subject: [archives] Multi-lingual, Multi-Script Finding Aids
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there is creating multi-lingual, multi-script finding aids. We have some donors who have done research in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Hindi. They want to make sure that scholars from the countries that speak these languages can easily locate the material in their own language and script, with some cultural sensitivities applied. To do this, we would need to create finding aids both in English and the other script. Is anyone automating this process? Does anyone have a platform they prefer for making sure both scripts are properly represented? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Please feel free to answer in a direct email to me. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Amy
