Index term: 2011 schedule of orientation for network staff
Network library staff may now register for one of the 2011 orientation
programs. The three-day events, held in Washington, D.C., provide a
comprehensive overview of NLS procedures and policies and give
participants the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of NLS
operations and services, to interact with NLS staff, and to meet
colleagues from around the network.
The 2011 calendar-year orientation schedule is:
-- March 23-25, Wednesday-Friday
-- June 14-16, Tuesday-Thursday (plus Friday, June 17, for equipment
-- October 26-28, Wednesday-Friday
Representatives from each NLS section will brief participants on NLS
functions and answer questions posed by the participants. Each registrant
may choose two one-hour AExperience NLS@ sessions on pertinent topics such
as Internet accessibility, book selection for the national collection, the
Comprehensive Mailing List System (CMLS), or NLS BARD. Participants will
also tour the Library of Congress buildings on Capitol Hill. A sample

__Participants are expected to attend the entire program.__
The 2005 Revised Standards and Guidelines of Service (Standard 11.10),
published by the American Library Association, endorses sending
appropriate staff members who have completed at least six months on the
job to an NLS orientation.

selected, registered participants will receive a confirmation letter, an
agenda, a list of accommodations, and an AExperience NLS@ questionnaire.
Staff requiring accommodations for physical or visual handicaps should
indicate such a preference upon registration to ensure that materials are
provided in appropriate formats, such as audio, braille, or large print.
