I have shipped a lot of 78s over the past 35 years as individual records, boxes
full and other combinations. A basic point I have found is to turn the direction
of the cardboard so some go == and some go II. I think newspaper is useless, it
also can get wrinkes that crack a record, pack the records tightly between
multiple layers of cardboard, and then double box, or extra cardboard around the
edges. I use at least 4 or more pads of cardboard. I agree with the statement to
let the records get reclimatized before unpacking from heat or cold. I mostly
ship books, CDs and DVDs these days but still the basic point is that the items
should be tight in the packaging so they don't move around in the container. I
often add extra packing on the front of CDs since the jewel case front is the
most likely to crack.
