I agree with Kathleen, the university level is where such a policy
change, if there were to be one, would take place; it's where the
lawyers reside. Again, though, I want to emphasize that "great
potential" isn't the issue, nor is it that of preventing absolutely ID
theft. My concern, which isn't keeping me awake at nights, is only to
fulfill our requirements (as an institution) to not be the ones who
expose our students to risk and to demonstrate, perhaps even lead, in
educating them to the risk potential.

Hey, I've experienced that, too! (Perhaps even a little in the list
discussion of this topic.)
